Lawson State hosted The Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Women’s Basketball Tournament the week of Tuesday, March 2 through Friday, March 8. Championship on Friday, March 8. The week culminated in the Championship game on Friday, March 8 in which the Shelton State Community College Buccaneers took on the Chattahoochee Valley Community College Pirates.

The Shelton State Bucs got off to a strong lead finishing the first period with a lead of 16 - 6. The Bucs kept the drive going in the second period to end the 1st half with the edge over the Chattahoochee Valley Pirates by a score of 31 - 16. In the 3rd period, The Pirates started to charge back, but Shelton State held the lead with the score at the end of the 3rd period 52 - 37. The Pirate dominated the 4th period at one time closing within several points of taking the lead, but the Shelton State Bucs turn up the heat in the final minutes of the game and won the championship by a score of 67 - 59 to win the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Women’s Basketball Championship.

The stars of the game for the Chattahoochee Valley Community College Pirates were Anesha Smith with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist, Shicoriya Orr with 9 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal, Timi’a Swanson with 7 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist and Alycia Reese with 8 points and 1 rebound.

The stars of the game for the Shelton State Community College Buccaneers were Tiyah Johnson with 20 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal, Ataiya Bridges with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals, Briana Trigg with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 1 assist, Ayanna Trigging with 5 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist, Queen Ford with 2 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal, and LaTascya Duff with 8 points 2 rebounds and 1 assist.

The All-Tournament Team included Alexia Wallace from Southern Union, Jasmine Baker and Imari Martin from Wallace State, Audrey McElhaney, Shicoriya Orr, and Anesha Smith from Chattahoochee Valley and Tiyah Johnson, LaTascya Duff, Brianna Trigging, and Ataiya Bridges. Ataiya Bridges was named the MVP.
