In the AISA Basketball Boys Championship game held at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery on Saturday, February 16, The Bessemer Academy Rebel took on the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights. Bessemer Academy took the early lead with a 3 point advantage at the end of the first period 14 - 11. The 2nd period was a battle back and forth, but at halftime, the Rebels still managed to have a 1 point lead over the Knights with a score of 24 - 23. Bessemer Academy came out of the locker room at halftime and exploded in the 3rd period outscoring Tuscaloosa by 19 - 3 making the score at the end of the 3rd period 43 - 26. In the 4th period, the Rebels didn’t let up on the gas and continued to outpace the Knights winning the 2019 State Championship in grand style with a final score 63 - 46. To get to the Championship game the Bessemer Academy Rebels defeated Lee Scott by a score of 52 - 47 in the first round of the Elite 8 and advanced to the Final Four where they beat the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots 61 - 47 to advance on to the Championship game.

Bessemer Academy’s Micaiah Overton and LT Overton were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Bessemer Academy Senior Preston Jones was named AISA 3a Tournament MVP

Josh McMillon (11th grade, guard) 4 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals

Jaden Thomas (Freshman, guard) 2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 1 steal
