Samia Ford, a rising 8th-grade student, and Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) member at McAdory Middle School, represented her school and the Jefferson County School System at this week’s FCCLA National Leadership Conference and STAR Events, in Anaheim, California.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA has more than 160,000 members and more than 5,300 chapters from 49 state associations, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Samia was one of over 8700 students from across the United States, attending this national conference, and one of approximately 5000 competing in the various STAR (Students Taking Action for Recognition) Events.

On July 2nd, after months of hard work and preparation with her teacher and Chapter Advisor, Vicki Sorrell, and FCCLA Mentor, Kourtnie White, a senior at McAdory Middle School, Samia competed in the Career Investigation Event.  She scored a 95/100, is bringing home a gold medal and is currently ranked 12th in the nation in her event!
