The impact of poverty on children manifests itself through lower student achievement, increased behavior problems, poor attendance, and less parental involvement. With free and reduced lunch populations within the Hueytown Feeder Pattern reaching levels of 60% to 80%, there is no greater impact on student poverty than changing opportunities of which to have a positive impact within our community.

The Poverty Project Team is a group of teachers, one from each department at Hueytown High School, that will work together and with others to build collective efficacy around social awareness, cross-curricular instruction, problem-solving, and teamwork. The opportunity to put a toy in every hand of the children in Hueytown Elementary Schools is underway. They need the communities support to meet their goal of $2,000 to give a gift to every child this holiday!
