The Bessemer Elks Lodge # 721 and its members donated a total of $1,000 to the Hueytown Community Helpers on Friday, February 7, 2020. The $1,000 was a combination of a $300 donation directly from the lodge and $700 from individual members who donated at the Lodge meeting because the money went to help children.

Hueytown Community Helpers (HCH) is a 501(c)(3) organization made up of caring volunteers from local churches, businesses, and families who provide food and school supplies for children in our elementary schools. By filling these needs, the children can focus on thriving academically and look forward to bright futures that may have been clouded by hunger or poverty. Two of the programs that the Hueytown Community Helpers coordinate are “Blessings In A Bag” and “Stuff The Bus” The “Blessings in a Bag” Program meets the needs of hungry children by providing them with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food to take home on weekends when other resources are not available. It is designed to provide weekend food assistance to elementary-age children through their school that are “food insecure.” At the beginning of each school year, the Hueytown Community Helpers hold a donation drive where they “stuff the bus” with school supplies for area children. Supplies are distributed to local area schools based on need. For more information on the Hueytown Community Helpers or to make a donation visit their website at
