Bessemer Food Connection is a multidimensional approach to understanding the importance of healthy food production and healthy nutrition, and how this benefits both the community and personal health and well-being. The Bessemer Food Connection 2019 will allow you to learn what’s trending in nutrition, growing and producing healthy food, and creating opportunities for individuals to work together to help create a Healthy Food Economy in Bessemer.

Bessemer Food Connection 2019 will take place on August 1, 2019, from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM at Bessemer Recreation Center, 100 14th Street South HWY 150, Bessemer, AL 35020.

Topics will include food safety (both in the kitchen and on the farm), kitchen and container gardens, sustainable community gardens, land banks, grants and other funding opportunities for farmers, information for elected officials and nonprofit leaders, GMO’s, organic farming, and more.

The keynote speech will be delivered by Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture Rick Pate. Breakout sessions will include topics the following topics; food safety, land banks, community gardens, kitchen gardens, and grants and other programs that can benefit your garden or farm. A motivational presentation will be given by Dr. Theresa Wallace, Project Director for the UAB Grand Challenge, Healthy Alabama 2030: Live HealthSmart!

The cost for the day is $10. Lunch will be provided.

This symposium qualifies for Master Gardener CEU’s.

Door prizes will be awarded.
