Jefferson County students will continue to receive meals through the JEFCOED/Kikstart partnership for the remainder of the summer. The meal service, which was set to stop on June 5th, will now continue until school starts back on August 25th.
If the start of school were to be delayed, JEFCOED and Kikstart have reached an agreement to extend the meal service until at least September 30th.
“While we anticipate starting on time, COVID-19 has proven to be unpredictable. Should the situation change, the September 30th date allows us to have a plan in place to make sure kids are fed,” said Dr. Walter Gonsoulin, Superintendent.
Anyone 18-years old and younger will be eligible to receive lunch Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
“From the beginning, our goal has been to provide for our students, but at the same time keep our staff safe. The kickstart model is accomplishing both. Our district is forever grateful to them,” said Gonsoulin.
